The ways in which local businesses are presented on Google, are being changed and new techniques are being introduced. So far Google used the seven pack local listing for the local businesses. But, it was towards the beginning of the month of August, 2015 that Google has altered it to a three pack listing. The success of this new initiative is entirely dependent on the way the businesses are going to react.
Highlights of the changes:
The three pack search result is also known as the Snack Pack and it has got some significant and noticeable changes in them. These are –
· Removal of phone number of the business
· Removal of complete address, just the roads are mentioned
· Removal of Google Plus page of the business
So far the consumers used to get all these above mentioned information along with the search results. However, all that they are now supposed to do is click on the three individual listing that will appear on the screen as a search result. With each listing, there will be a new knowledge graph interface overlaid over a map.
The difference is that the individual listings and the knowledge graph that will appear upon clicking on these listings, will offer basic information regarding the business. It will also offer its reviews as well as photographs that are drawn from the Google Plus page of the business. However, upon clicking on this knowledge graph or the individual listing, it will not direct you to the website of the business. The information that the consumers could get from Google so far from a single click, would now be available from two clicks. Whether it is useful or not is a matter of time to determine. But consumers will not have to be directed to the Google Plus site, the quaintly used social media platform, to know about the business.
Businesses that were so far so confident about their coveted position in the seven pack system will now have to strive hard to get into the three pack SERP system. Usually they are becoming invisible in the three spot system. Google has created this initiative to make more local businesses pay AdWords customers.
Businesses will consider the local citation platforms and the Google My Business platform more seriously to get listed in these three spots. The companies that so far followed black hat tactics will now be short lived. In order to get listed in these three spots, they will now have to focus more on –
· Customer reviews in the page
· Accurate and complete citations in local listings and citations
· Strong on-page optimization
· Quality links that are relevant
Google will mostly collect the basic information from Google Plus page.
